How to cook Nasi Lemak?

Nasi Lemak is a traditional Malaysian dish that consists of fragrant coconut rice served with various accompaniments. Here is a recipe for how to cook Nasi Lemak :

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of long-grain rice
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 can of coconut milk (13.5 oz)
  • 2 pandan leaves, tied in a knot (optional)
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1 tbsp of sugar
  • 1 cucumber, sliced
  • 2 hard-boiled eggs, halved
  • 1 cup of peanuts, roasted
  • 1 cup of dried anchovies, fried
  • Sambal chili (A MUST)

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the rice in water until the water runs clear. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a pot, combine the coconut milk, water, pandan leaves, salt, and sugar. Bring to a boil.
  3. Add the rice and stir well. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 20 minutes or until the rice is cooked.
  4. Once the rice is cooked, remove it from the heat and let it sit covered for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Fluff the rice with a fork, and remove the pandan leaves.
  6. Serve the rice with the sliced cucumber, hard-boiled eggs, peanuts, and dried anchovies on the side.
  7. Complement your nasi lemak with Sambal Chili to complete the meal.
